Full migration to JSON-based Graph API

Effective May 31, 2026, we will be discontinuing the XML-based Search API and complete the migration to the JSON-based Graph API.

Since the launch of our new Graph API in April 2025, we have been working towards providing you with a more lightweight, flexible, and efficient way to access data from OpenAIRE. The new API better meets the evolving needs of our clients and simplifies our infrastructure.
We initially announced this transition last year, and in the meantime, we have been working closely with repositories and users to facilitate a smooth migration. With this notice, we are now confirming the final dismissal of the XML-based Search API.

What's Changing:

Deprecated API: The old Search API (documented at https://graph.openaire.eu/docs/apis/search-api/) available at https://api.openaire.eu/search/ will be discontinued.
Recommended Migration: Please migrate to the new Graph API (documented at https://graph.openaire.eu/docs/apis/graph-api/) available at https://api.openaire.eu/graph/

Why This Matters:

The new Graph API provides JSON-formatted records, offering a more modern and flexible approach to data consumption. This transition allows us to simplify our data provisioning workflow and infrastructure while delivering better service to you.

Action Required:

We recommend that you migrate your applications to use the new Graph API as soon as possible, until May 31, 2026.
